Brooke Henderson

Brooke joined Shullman Fugate in August 2026. Her practice focuses on content, access to information, and intellectual property.

Brooke’s love for the First Amendment started in high school, when she began writing for the South Florida Times. She pursued her passion at the University of Florida, where she was a columnist for the Independent Florida Alligator and later inducted into the university's Hall of Fame. She holds a master's degree from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York, where she received the Ida B. Wells Scholarship for investigative journalism, and her reporting has appeared in the Miami Herald, Fortune, and The Wall Street Journal, where she was a Dow Jones News Fund intern.

Before joining the firm, Brooke served as the First Amendment Fellow at the Center for Investigative Reporting, the nonprofit newsroom that publishes Mother Jones and Reveal. She conducted prepublication legal review of investigative articles, podcasts, and documentary projects, and advised reporters on newsgathering and intellectual property issues. She also assisted in federal freedom-of-information and court-access litigation.

During law school, Brooke advised early-stage businesses through Berkeley's New Business Community Law Clinic, counseling entrepreneurs on entity formation, employment, and intellectual property protection. She also served as an associate editor of the California Law Review and worked with California Lawyers for the Arts on copyright and trademark matters for Bay Area artists. She spent two summers as a summer associate at a national law firm in San Francisco, where she worked on venture financings and initial public offerings.
