Giselle Girones represents clients in matters involving content, intellectual property, defamation, privacy, and First Amendment law. She originally joined Shullman Fugate in 2017 and, after six years of practice at the firm, spent two years as in-house counsel at NBCUniversal advising on editorial, newsgathering, and First Amendment matters for NBCUniversal News Group including both Telemundo and NBC News. During that time, she gained hands-on experience with network and local newsrooms, providing guidance on a wide range of production and content issues, including pre-publication review, sponsored content, longform programming, podcasts, and other production-related matters.
Giselle’s return to Shullman Fugate brings clients the benefit of her deepened perspective on newsroom operations and her practical, real-world approach to navigating today’s fast-changing media landscape. She continues to offer strategic guidance on content practices, defamation defense, access issues, and IP disputes, and provides pre-publication and pre-broadcast review, newsroom trainings, and newsgathering advice to print, digital, television, podcast, and production clients in both English and Spanish media.
Giselle began her legal career at a respected Jacksonville firm and previously worked at a boutique intellectual property law firm, where she handled copyright and trademark matters. She received her undergraduate degree in communication and sports management from Florida State University, where she worked for Universal Music Group and in the Sports Information Office at a major NCAA Division I university.
She is a former Fellow of both The Florida Bar’s Wm. Reece Smith, Jr. Leadership Academy and the Business Law Section, and she has served on the ABA’s IP Law Section CLE Board and the Jacksonville Bar Young Lawyers Board of Governors. She currently serves on The Florida Bar’s Media and Communications Law Committee and co-chairs the Media Law Defense Center’s Next Gen Committee and the ABA Forum on Communications Law’s Media Advocacy Workshop.
